We are tiny humans

Sesriem is the state camp site, we camped here because it gives you an extra hour to get on top of the dunes before sunrise when they open gates.

Thanks for the tip Andrew!

We arrived at Sesriem camp and loved the openness, the stands are far from each other and the facilities great.  Pity the swimming pool water was the same green as the grass around it.

Early night after braai, for the 5am wakeup call to be first when gate opened to Sossusvlei and desert dunes.

We first stopped at dune 45, (45Km from the gate) for sunrise.  The climb to top was ok, the cold biting at my ears and nose was worth every bit.

I had stop taking pictures because there is to many beautiful scenes to photograph.  Point: Sand and Cameras do not work.

Further on to the parking for Dead pan and Sossusvlei where the 4x4 shuttles took us closer.

IMG_0854 Dead pan hasn't seen water for decades.

To get perspective of Dead pan we climbed one of the dunes surrounding it.

The white area is dried white clay. Fran is a small yellow speck against these enormous hills of sand as she came running down.

The 4x4 shuttles dropped us close to Dead pan, we walked to Sossusvlei, it is about 2km but the loose sand made it feel like 4km.

Sossusvlei did not get water this year but we saw stats that in years past it was flooded.

Resting at Sossusvlei and waiting for 4x4 shuttles to return us to our vehicle.

Close to Sesriem camp site is Sesriem canyon, at foot of gorge which plunges 30 meters are pools replenished after good rain.

The name came from the fact that water was pulled up using 6 oxen ropes tide together.

Beautiful place!

  1. Sjoe maar het ons nou koud gekry daardie oggend toe ons so vroeg by duin 45 was. Het ook die helfde van die duin se sand in my skoene gehad toe ek onderkom.
